“It is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God … and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proved by all history, that those nations only are blest whose God is the Lord.”  — Abraham Lincoln

David Barton Comes to the Valley!

Many of you were among the more than 900 people who attended the Forum’s “Celebration of Heritage” dinner at JMU with David Barton several years ago.  His visit has had a profound and continuing impact on the Valley.

Pastors preached about our Heritage, the need for another Great Awakening, and the importance of Christians being involved in the culture and in the public square.  In addition, small groups came together to watch Barton’s “America’s Godly Heritage” set of outstanding DVDs — which are available from Amazon.

So why are we repeating this outstanding series about our Heritage?  Is it because we are growing ever more concerned about the direction of our country – especially during the past several years?  Is it because of the continuing efforts to expel God from our schools and to remove Him from our public places?  Is it also because of the devastating effects on our families, our schools, and on our nation when we turn our backs on God?

Our Founding Fathers:  Then and Now

For the next 11 weeks, we will re-visit our Godly Heritage with David Barton on the Valley Faith in Action TV program.

This first weekend, for example, Barton will introduce the Founding Fathers and their faith, discuss the role of the Bible in shaping our government, present the original intent of what we refer to as the “Separation of Church and State”, and expose ways in which the Obama administration and the Courts today are turning that concept on its head – with tragic consequences for all of us.

So what can we do about all this?  At the end of the program, we will unveil a Five-Step Strategic Plan for restoring America to its Founding Principles, beginning with Remembrance and continuing on to Repentance, Revival, Reform, and finally to National Renewal.
