A Brave New World

Have you noticed how many people are walking around or even driving with a phone in their ear?  That their eyes are often glued to tiny screens?  That they are using their thumbs (!) to type on even tinier keypads?  What are they watching, and who are they talking or writing to?

This is a new Brave New World, like it or not, for better or for worse.  Like nuclear power, communication technologies are neither good nor bad in themselves.  But they can be used for both good and bad, and we need to know the difference.

Winning the Battle against the Dark Side

So, what is behind the little screen that shields us (we think) from prying eyes?

For example, what about P**N on our cell phones and on our home computers, and how pervasive is it?  Could it be a primary cause of the sexual harassment cases that are becoming exposed recently by normalizing and even promoting deviant sexual behavior?

Beyond that, why is gaming potentially so dangerous?  What is a “Second Life” all about?  What about texting, sexting, My Space, Facebook – and all other kinds of “private” communications?

Can these become “addictions” and, if so, how can they affect our marriages and our children?  What are some warning signs to watch for, and what can we do to avoid their grip and/or to defeat them?

What is the role of the church and what advice can we give to pastors and youth group leaders?  What does the Bible have to say about all this — and why does it matter anyway?

Our Guest

This is a repeat airing of an excellent program with Brad Huddleston as we talk about Winning the Battle against the Dark Side of Technology.

Brad is the author of The Dark Side of Technology:  Restoring Balance in the Digital Age, and he has been carrying that message to schools and churches across American and internationally.  He has also just published a second book entitled Digital Cocaine:  A Journey Toward iBalance.

Brad has been a guest on our program before to talk about “The P**n Generation:  Its Impact on America”.  To learn more about Brad, the work that he and his wife Beth are doing, or to invite him to speak at your church or civic club, go to www.bradhuddleston.com.
