Who Is Rosaria Butterfield?

That is the context for our Crossroads program this weekend as Rita Dunaway and I join Pastor Todd Pruitt from Covenant Presbyterian Church, to discuss the provocative experiences and ideas presented by former lesbian and LGBT activist Dr. Rosaria Butterfield in a recent book entitled The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert—an English professor’s journey into Christian faith.

Dr. Butterfield received a Ph. D. from Ohio University and then became a tenured Professor of English and Women’s Studies at Syracuse University.  At the time, she identified as a lesbian and worked in her teaching and community activism to advance the cause of LGBT “equality”.

However, after her conversion to Christ, she came to see the sinfulness of having any identity apart from God, and her life changed dramatically – what she describes as a train wreck.  She left her teaching position, married a church pastor, became the home-school mother of four adopted children, began writing about her experience, and now travels the country telling her story.
