The Invitation: “Renewing Our Dream for America”
This is a reminder that only three weeks remain until our 17th annual “Salute to the Family” dinner which will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 26, at the JMU Festival Conference and Student Center. Our theme for this year is “Renewing Our Dream for America”.
Seats are filling up quickly. Therefore, if you have not already done so, please get your reservations in as soon as possible but no later than July 22 – if seats are still available. See details below.
Dr. Alveda King: A Dream for Unity, for Life, and for Justice
Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Alveda King, one of America’s leading champions for life, for freedom, and for justice. As the niece of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., she has followed his lead in many ways, including when she too stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 2010 and led tens of thousands of other voices in the call to “Restore Honor” in America.
Like her uncle, she too dreams of an America where everyone is treated equally under the law, endowed by God with certain inalienable rights, and that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. It’s a dream that we will be united across ethnic, racial, religious, and party lines as “One Nation under God”, a shining City on a Hill for all the world to see.
It’s also a dream that all babies, born and unborn, will once more be welcomed in life and protected by law. To that end, Dr. King serves on the pastoral team of Priests for Life as the Executive Director of their outreach initiative. She is also a powerful voice for the Silent No More Campaign, sharing her personal testimony of two abortions, God’s forgiveness, and personal healing.
Dinner Plans – and More!
The evening will open with a posting of the colors by a Trail Life USA Troop followed by some outstanding music, a great meal, a General Assembly update, a Forum award, and Dr. King’s feature presentation. There will also be several book signings and other displays available in the lobby.
But there’s even more! In addition to the dinner, the Virginia Watchmen Council will host a separate session earlier in the day for pastors and other ministry leaders. Mark your calendars, and stay tuned for details.
