A Battle Raging: Liberty under Siege in America

What would it be like to grow up under a brutal Communist dictator, seeing your pastor-father thrown into prison, not knowing when or if you will ever see him again?

What would it be like as a young boy to come out from under that black night of tyranny into the bright light of Liberty in America, the land of the free and the home of the brave?

And what would it be like if you were that same boy, now grown and with children of your own, living in America, and watching that same dark shadow of oppression creeping across your adopted home, driven by the edicts of a would-be “King” and his LGBT/ACLU intimidators?

In real life, what is it like for the baker, the florist, the photographer, the pizza maker, the printer, the wedding coordinator, the school administrator, the soldier, the fire chief, the business owner, the corporate executive, the TV star, and even the pastor … the list goes on and on and on, people who have been viciously attacked, fined, and even jailed, simply because they stood up for what they believed and refused to support same-sex “marriages”.

And now, even more recently, what is it like to be one of thousands of public school administrators and school board members who are being told by the federal government that they must open up girls’ restrooms and locker room facilities to boys who say they “feel” like girls?

Yes, a dark shadow of oppression is indeed creeping across the land seeking to undermine and destroy our timeless Judeo-Christian values and enduring Constitutional principles.

That is the story that Horatio (Harry) Mihet tells us on Crossroads this weekend.  What took him from being a top gun attorney for one of the largest law firms in America to become the Vice President of Legal Affairs and Chief Litigation Counsel for Liberty Counsel headquartered in Orlando, Florida.  (To learn more about Liberty Counsel, go to www.lc.org.)

In that capacity, how does he see the landscape for liberty in American today?  What are some of the more flagrant cases in which he has been involved to defend clients who have been shackled in various ways for standing up for what they believe?

For example, as the lead attorney in the case of Kentucky Clerk of the Court Kim Davis, how does he decide to defend her in court?  Why not simply advise her to accept the court’s order and sign the marriage certificates.  Or if she still refuses to do that, why not just give up, resign her elected position, go home, and avoid the prison cell, as some have suggested?

Finally, what can we do to prepare for this dark shadow of oppression and to stand up, just like Kim Davis did, for what we believe — come what may?

Taking a Stand at the Crossroads

It’s a challenging story, so please join Rita and me with Horatio Mihet this weekend on one of the following Valley radio stations: WBTX (1470) at 4:00 p.m. today and again on Sunday at 7:30 a.m., WSVA/AM (550) and 92.1 FM at 8:30; and WNLR (1150) at 11:30. You can also listen online HERE anytime.

On this program, we also said a sad farewell to John Sloop, an original member of our Crossroads Team.  He has decided to “retire” from Crossroads and from the Valley Family Forum, and we shall miss him.

We deeply appreciate your prayers, your encouragement, and your support.  All gifts are tax-deductible and, if you would like to help, please send your check to Crossroads at PO Box 881, Harrisonburg, 22803.

From the Crossroads Team, for God and Country!
