“Government is downstream from the Culture, from the Church, from the People, and from God.  When any of these streams becomes polluted, we are accountable, and the Government pool suffers accordingly.”  (Rakazzi)

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, sweet for sour and sour for sweet, light for darkness and darkness for light, and woe to those who justify the wicked for reward. … They shall be destroyed because they have cast away the law of the Lord and despised His Holy Word.”  (Isaiah 5:20-24)

“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”  (Martin Luther King, Jr.)

“Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it, and except the Lord keep the city, the watchman wakes in vain.”  (Ps. 127:1)

“Every house, every city, and every nation that is divided against itself shall be brought to desolation.  It shall not stand.”  (Jesus:  Matt. 12:25)

“If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”  (II Chronicles 7:14)

President Biden:  Unity versus Division

On January 20, the first day of his Presidency, Joe Biden struck a welcome tone in his inaugural speech with his repeated call for unity.  It gave us hope for the future.

Nevertheless, many were skeptical because of a four year record of Democratic attacks on President Trump specifically and on conservative Republicans in general.  It never stopped, reflecting very liberal policies contained in the Democratic Party Platform and bowing to strong pressures from the increasingly hostile left wing of the Party.

That skepticism was reinforced almost immediately when Biden issued over 45 executive orders within the first 10 days after his inauguration, nearly all of which reversed policies set in place by the Trump administration.
Therefore, the hope for unity was dashed as many of the new orders deepened the divisions among us, with the dreaded expectation of more to come.

In our Crossroads program this weekend, we will focus on two of these orders that affect issues of particular concern for many of us, abortion and gender.  Both of them also have broader implications for their impact on our religious freedoms and on the role of government in our lives.

Biden’s Agenda for Women

Abortion:  First of all, as part of his comprehensive “Agenda for Women”, Biden has reversed the Mexico City Policy which prohibits US funding for overseas organizations that perform or support abortions.  This policy goes back to 1985 under President Reagan and has been in continuous effect under Republican presidents since that time, only with regrettable lapses under Democratic administrations.

Biden has made clear that he also intends to reverse the 1976 Hyde Amendment which bars federal funding for abortions in America, with certain exceptions. However, this will be more difficult to reverse because it would require Congressional approval.

The larger question, however, is whether these pro-abortion orders belong in this “Agenda for Women” at all.  After all, how do abortions protect and “empower” women when the result is the destruction of their unborn babies, often with severe consequences for their own physical, mental, and emotional well-being?

Unity:  Furthermore, how does this promote the national unity that Biden aspires to since most Americans object to abortions in general, and will object even more strongly if forced to pay for them.  No unity there!

Fairness:  Another troubling part of Biden’s “Agenda for Women” is his plan to develop “affirmative action” policies that would provide federal funding for women-owned businesses and also to give women more favorable treatment in filling important Cabinet positions and in winning government contracts.

Does that really protect and empower women, or does it insult them instead by suggesting that they are incapable of competing with men on a level playing field?  Are they to understand that they cannot gain “equality” and “success” without government assistance?

In addition, such policies beg the question of whether the government should be involved at all in picking winners and losers in our free market of ideas and opportunities.  Should it not instead simply work to ensure a level playing field for everyone, regardless of color and gender?

Biden’s Policy on Gender Discrimination

That leads to the next series of orders that does indeed attempt to create a level playing field that treats everyone equally, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

However, though well-intentioned, this quest for “equality” can unfairly pit groups against each other. For example, allowing males who self-identify as females to participate in girls’ and women’s sports such as track and field, or in wrestling competitions, would put females at a distinct disadvantage because of physical differences in speed and strength.

Consequently, Biden’s “Agenda for Women” to protect and empower women would be shoved to the side in deference to the “Transgender Agenda”.  That would be the end of “women’s sports” as we know it today.

These conflicting agendas to achieve “gender equality” get even more confused by allowing biological males to use restrooms, locker rooms, and shelters that are reserved exclusively for the protection and privacy of biological females.

The Take-Away:  What Can We Do?

So, given what we have seen so far, it is clear that these executive orders drive us further apart rather than draw us together.  In the process, the Judeo-Christian values and Constitutional principles on which America was founded are also under intense attack and, as noted above, a people and a nation that is divided against itself cannot stand.

Therefore, it is also clear that we will never be able to achieve political or cultural reform without another Great Spiritual Awakening in America.  Only with a desperately needed change of heart and soul can we achieve a restoration of America’s Godly Heritage and a return to unity as “One Nation under God”.

May God give us the wisdom, guidance, discernment, courage, and strength to help advance His Kingdom here on earth as it is in Heaven.  Amen, and Amen.
