A Big Decision: Cuban Tyranny or America Liberty?
What if you were 18 years old, as Rafael Cruz was in 1957, carrying the scars of battle with and torture by a brutal tyrant in Cuba, and granted a student visa to go to America? Would you leave or stay?
But then why did he later return to Cuba – only to be betrayed by the new government under Castro for which he had fought? And why did he then decide to settle permanently in America?
What were his first impressions of America and then what changed in ways that compelled him to become active in politics?
Does the Church Lead or Follow the Culture?
What does Rev. Cruz see as America’s greatest challenges today? What does he mean by “secular humanism”? What does he mean when he says that too many churches have themselves “conformed” to the culture rather than acting as the “transforming” agents of Salt and Light that they are called to be?
What Supreme Court decisions does Cruz identify that shook America from its Biblical foundations? Why does he point to our current administration in Washington as largely responsible for leading our country further and further away from our Godly heritage and Constitutional principles?
As an ordained minister, what now prompts Cruz to devote so much of his time on the road with pastors across America? Is it because many of them refuse to preach about controversial issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, and excuse themselves by saying that they should limit themselves to “evangelism”?
Are they silent for fear of breaching the now badly misunderstood “wall of separation between church and state” and perhaps losing their tax-exempt status? If so, what can we do to encourage them to speak boldly and plainly about moral issues that the Bible addresses so clearly, including Life and Marriage?
And on that issue of marriage, what does Crux expect from the Supreme Court next month? Will it compel all states to recognize same-sex “marriages”? If so, how would that affect our ability to speak out freely in support of God’s design and purpose for marriage as between only one man and one woman?
Finally, does Cruz believe that the sun is rising or setting on America today, as Benjamin Franklin asked 225 years ago at the end of the Constitutional convention? (You might be surprised at his answer!)
Our Special Guest
These are some of the issues our Crossroads team will be discussing on Valley radio tomorrow (Sunday) with Rev. Cruz, who was the keynote speaker at our Valley Family Forum Dinner last Friday, May 15.
As the father of Senator and now presidential candidate Ted Cruz, Cruz will also talk about how his son developed his love for America and his passion for the unchanging Biblical values and Constitutional principles on which America was founded and has prospered.
Rev. Cruz is the Director of “Grace for America” and shares his story across America, encouraging everyone he meets to unite in rebuilding the foundations that have made it such an exceptional nation.
