Sanctity of Life Sunday

This Sunday, Jan. 15, is Sanctity of Life Sunday to mark the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the infamous and tragically flawed Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand and led to the dismemberment and deaths of some 58 million babies since that time.

But so what?  Does it matter that nearly one out of four babies in America is aborted every day?  Does it matter that a disproportionate number of those abortions take place in predominately black communities at Planned Parenthood clinics, an organization with a sordid history of targeting the black community?

Elections Matter:  The Fight for Life

In addition, would it matter to you if your powerful Virginia state senator chaired what was known as the “Committee of Death” because it routinely killed every pro-life bill that came before it?

On top of that, if you were a white woman, how could you possibly get past historic black/white differences to persuade black leaders, including pastors, to vote against this pro-abortion senator because they liked his support on other issues that were important to them?

Special Guests

That woman is our guest on Valley Faith in Action this weekend.  Terry Beatley is the Founder and President of “No Excuse Ministry”, which is dedicated to mobilizing the church to defend the sanctity of human life and who helped defeat that long-term, abortion-supporting state senator noted above.

We’ll ask Terry how she came to this passion for life and how she responds to the “excuses” that people – and their churches — often give for being silent on the life issue.

We’ll also ask how she was able to build pro-life alliances and increase black voter turnout on “values” issues in Fredericksburg where she lives – and which led to the upset election-day defeat of her long-time incumbent, pro-abortion senator.

Brad Huddleston will join our discussion as a revivalist, author of The Dark Side of Technology:  Restoring Balance in the Digital Age and Digital Cocaine, and a past Valley coordinator of a successful campaign to identify and support “Values” candidates for office in Virginia.

Side Note on Dr. Bernard Nathanson

Subsequent to her appearance on this program, Terry had a private meeting with the late Bernard Nathanson, a former abortion doctor in New York who oversaw over 60,000 abortions and founded the National Abortion Rights Action League.  She then wrote a book about that encounter entitled What If We’ve Been Wrong?  Keeping My Promise to America’s “Abortion King”.

It tells his story about seeing the ultrasound of an abortion and coming to regret his past leadership of the abortion industry.  In his later years, he became a Christian and did all he could to undo the damage he had done.  As part of that effort, he narrated a groundbreaking pro-life video entitled “The Silent Scream” and became a powerful voice for the pro-life movement.
